Calgary Meals on Wheels promotes health and supports the choice of independence by preparing and delivering nutritious, affordable meals to people in need of our service and by enhancing Calgary's community safety net.
In 2009, an average of 1907 clients per day, received meals through the Calgary Meals on Wheels direct home delivery program, in addition to the 216 bag lunches per day for the working homeless, service to approximately 900 elementary school children, and those served through our community support programs - totaling over 447,000 meals prepared, portioned, packaged, and delivered from our central location.
Calgary Meals on Wheels is proud to say that in our 45 year history, we have never failed to deliver the scheduled meals. This reflects the commitment and support of some 645 dedicated volunteers, our staff and Board, and the assistance of good neighbours during severe winter weather.
Besides the provision of good meals, a core value of this and our other services, is the social contact with each client, ensuring their safety, enjoying a short visit, and engaging each one in conversation as an effort to reduce isolation and add “care and comfort” by friendly and committed volunteers coming to their place of residence.
In addition to our Regular Meal Service, our Production Centre Team also prepares and manages distribution of the following:
Calgary Meals on Wheels is proud to serve the citizens of Calgary through initiatives and partnerships which are planned to be supportive and responsive to need. The services are non-discriminatory, providing meals and informalchecks to all who are in need of this assistance. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, if a clients' financial status is stretched due to health or personal circumstances, we are able to work with them to ensure they are able to afford our services.
