Hot Soup Program
What is the Hot Soup Program?
Calgary Meals on Wheels provides a hearty, nutritious soup, crackers or buns twice weekly to students in "high-risk" elementary schools during the school year. Schools may supplement the soup with milk and/or fresh fruit where possible.
"Hot Soup" ensures children coming to school without lunch have the energy required to concentrate and learn. This program feeds about 960 high-risk children in Calgary elementary schools, or some 54,250 servings of hearty soup.
Access to this program is through school principals requesting this service from Calgary Meals on Wheels. Currently we are advised that 15 schools are on the waiting list for this service.
The program is supported through fundraising by Calgary Meals on Wheels, and includes support from the United Way of Calgary & Area, the Burns Memorial Foundation and local donors.
