As a charitable organization, Calgary Meals on Wheels promotes health and independence by providing quality, nutritious and affordable meals to people in need of our services, to build a stronger, caring community.
Our clients include people recovering from illness or surgery, seniors, and people with disabilities. We also provide specially prepared meals for the Chinese community, bagged lunches for the working homeless and a ‘Hot Soup’ program for children in high risk elementary schools.
Calgary Meals on Wheels' current facility is no longer suitable for our needs. After an analysis of the options for a suitable facility, the Board of Directors determined that the best course of action is the construction of a new facility. A land transaction with The City of Calgary was completed May 31, 2011 for the purchase of a .726 ha parcel located at 5759 80 Ave SE. Application for the Development Permit is being processed; once received, application for the Building Permit will be made. Construction is anticipated to commence early 2012 with occupancy early 2013. Total estimated cost of the project is $11 million. With $7 million cash-in-hand, Calgary Meals on Wheels More Than a Meal Capital Campaign will raise the remaining $4 million required to bring the project to fruition. Watch for updates as they become available!
We encourage you to take the time to learn more about our organization, and to consider becoming more involved as a volunteer, donor or member. We know firsthand that good nutrition improves lives and we are committed to ensuring all Calgarians have access to nutritious meals.
In 45 years of service, Calgary Meals on Wheels has never missed a scheduled day of meal delivery.
