March is Nutrition Month

Nutrition Month is a time to celebrate the powerful role food plays in our lives and the professionals who help Canadians make informed, healthy choices. Registered Dietitians are involved at every stage of life, from childhood to older adulthood, helping prevent chronic disease, manage health conditions, and improve quality of life.

Dietitians support the health of Canadians across hospitals, schools, long-term care homes, public health, government, the food system, and community organizations.

Did you know Calgary Meals on Wheels has an on staff registered dietitian?

Our registered dietitian plays a central role in ensuring the quality, safety, and nutritional integrity of every meal we serve. Every ingredient and recipe is carefully reviewed to meet our nutrition and menu standards and to ensure they align with the needs of our core diets: Regular, Low Sodium, Renal, Gluten-Free, Gastrointestinal (GI), and Vegetarian. Our dietitian also participates in weekly taste panels to ensure our minced and puréed food options are both safe and appropriate for individuals with dysphagia and swallowing concerns.

Beyond menu development, our registered dietitian provides ongoing nutrition education for staff, equipping them with the knowledge needed to support clients at every stage of service, from client intakes to answering nutrition-related questions to safe food handling!

Find a Dietitian

Calgarians have access to several publicly funded dietitian services. You can call 811 to speak directly with a registered dietitian or access dietitian services through Alberta Health Services for many health conditions, as well as free nutrition workshops and classes.

Many medical clinics are also connected to a Primary Care Network, allowing physicians to refer patients to dietitian services. You can locate your local network and providers through AlbertaFindAProvider.
